Description
The focus of this book is on the interpretation and conversion of iconic data - pixels - into features. However, as this problem cannot be isolated from the recognition problem as a whole, several other related problems are also treated, such as the coding and compression of an image, and the confrontation of human and computer vision. The first part of the book deals with various aspects of enhancement restoration, such as mathematical morphology techniques and the problem of fractal dimension versus scale. Part II deals with feature detection subjects such as special transforms, invariant operators, edges and contours. Part III looks at Vision, containing contributions from psychophysiologists, and from other researchers dealing with human vision models and line image topics. The last part covers hardware and software, including hierarchical systems, pyramids, and processor arrays.
