Description
Gonorrhea is a common sexually transmitted disease. More than 700,000 people are infected annually in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It is curable with antibiotic treatment, and its dangerous effects can be prevented if it is identified and treated early in its development. Gonorrhea, Second Edition looks at the disease from historical and epidemiological perspectives, describing the discovery of the bacterium that causes gonorrhea, how it can be prevented, and the development of effective treatments. This revised edition contains new photographs and illustrations as well as updated statistics of gonorrhea rates in the United States.
