The Country of the Rising Sun

This publication is Otani's photobook debut. Most of the pictures in the book were made in Stockholm during the winter time. He was struck by how bright and crisp the light is in Sweden. With a refence to his home country of Japanwhere people a realy proud to be in the country of the rising sun. But according to Otani the sun rises in every country, even in Swedenin wintertime. Shinji Otani was born in Japan. He graduated at the photography department of Gerrit Rietveld Academie in 2007. He lives and works in Amsterdam. Otani approaches the making of a photo book as an installation, it's not a portfolio, but an object. Winner Unpublished Dummy Award, Unseen 2012
