Description
The book, REVOLUTION is designed to be easy reading for any person who wants to learn about the many painful but glorious steps in human social evolution.
It could be used in academic institutions to teach and help readers how society has actually moved. Nine chapters are devoted to the description and evaluation of nine different revolutions, those that have been of the greatest importance in changing social institutions and social evolution in completely new directions. In addition to describing the revolutions, the book examines each revolution from the viewpoint of four different aspects of society: Economics, Politics, Technology, and Ideology. Near the end of the book, a chapter explains the major events of each revolution within the theoretical framework that has been developed. The next chapter states how the average revolution has happened in various processes and different dimensions, thereby creating a progressive theory of how the average revolution proceeds. Finally, the last chapter describes exactly how present history is progressing within the framework established within the rest of the book.

Reviews / Votes
It would be an understatement to warn readers that Professor Sherman's latest book is wide ranging and encyclopedic in scope. Sherman takes readers through nine historic revolutions dating from the Neolithic revolution in the Mideast in 4000 BC to the Chinese Revolution in the mid-twentieth century, and provides a framework for understanding the roles played by technology, class conflict, and social institutions in all these social revolutions. Readers intrigued by social stability and change seeking to understand the forces at play today will find this book, written by someone with a lifetime of experience studying and promoting struggles for progressive social change, both provocative and enlightening. - Robin Hahnel, Professor Emerita, Portland State University Professor Howard Sherman has provided us with an eminently readable introduction to the process of historical evolution. He lays out, in clear prose, the conditions and consequences of the nine most revolutionary episodes in human history, the disjuncture of the current moment, and the possibility of a progressive, socialist, alternative. - Mayo Toruno, Professor Emeritus, California State University, San Bernardino In this impressive work, Howard Sherman uses his mastery of historical analysis and institutional methodology to examine nine of the most important revolutions in world history. He then applies lessons learned from this history to the prospects for progressive change in the US today. A book not to be missed. - Marty Wolfson, Professor of Economics Emeritus, University of Notre DameMore details
