Description
To fly, fairies fan and flutter their wings. But they need a flying phrase too. Will first-time fliers Flick and Flack find it?
Reviews / Votes
In this tongue twister, Flick and Flack are fairies who are best friends. Flack has a problem manipulating his wings, but Flick seem to be doing better. Flick and Flack are in their first year of flying school, and after a lesson from their teacher, they proceed to practice what they have learned. After some unsuccessful attempts, they help each other and soon begin to fly. The teacher is happy for them and how they worked together. Lively and cute illustrations add interest to the simple story. Young readers will learn that the "ph" in the word "phrase" makes the "f " sound. The series is based on reading levels, and this story is a green level, which "presents more complex ideas, an extended vocabulary range, and expanded language structures." A few suggestions are given about how to share this book with your child and several websites are listed. * Children's Literature Comprehensive Database *More details

When Trisha Speed Shaskan was a girl, she wanted to become a superhero. Her mother gave her a Wonder Woman costume. Her dad crafted her a tiara and bracelets out of metal to match. Trisha imagined she could fight evil, fly an invisible airplane, and get anyone to tell the truth. While she didn't grow up to be Wonder Woman, she still uses her imagination to write stories and to teach creative writing. Trisha has taught creative writing to children and adults for thirteen years. She has published 26 books for children, and more are forthcoming. She has an MFA in creative writing from Minnesota State University, Mankato. Trisha currently lives in Minneapolis with her husband, Stephen, and their cat, Eartha, named after Eartha Kitt, famous for her role as Catwoman.
