Description
In 1989 Helen Sharman was a confectionery tester with Mars when she was among 13,000 who responded to a radio advertisement for an astronaut. After a series of gruelling psychological, mental and physical tests Helen was one of the final two to go to Moscow's Star City to begin her two-year training for the Soviet-Anglo Juno mission. It was to include a crash course in Russian as well as long periods of isolation, and was to draw on every possible strength Helen possessed to see her through to the eight days she was to spend in space in May 1991. Right up to the last moment she did not know whether she or her compatriot Tim Race would be the one Briton finally selected to travel in space. This book describes her training and space experience.
