Description
Temple towns used to be the core of the region, in Indian ancient town Planning systems. The book includes the study of four main streets of Historic Temple town of Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu, which are identical in terms of ancient architectural heritage and have identical chaos especially in festival season. This is one of the unique temples in south India which is dedicated to both lord Shiva and Vishnu. In the research, questionnaire-based survey has been employed for collection of data. The Delphi approach was used in this study, and responses from a variety of groups, including tourist, residents, stakeholders, and planning authorities, were collected and analysed using empirical analysis to identify unique problems in each street. This research aims to provide a solution based on a sustainable development framework. Proposals have been framed within the scope of design and planning guidelines for temple town conservation established by the planning authorities for the benefit of Chidambaram's urban-scape and aesthetics.
