Description
The main object of this work is as a ready reference, principally for court chairman and clerks when needing to make pronouncements in court. However, the scope of the book has been widened to provide a range of useful day-to-day information for the same users. In addition to the usual forms of oaths and suggested sentencing pronouncements, for example, there are included background notes on mode of trial decisions, bail, sentencing and enforcement powers. All recent changes in the law, such as the right of the prosecution to challenge the granting of bail in certain cases and the disappearance of committal proceedings, have been taken into account. The 1995 version of the Lord Chief Justice's mode of trial guidelines are included as an appendix and there are sections dealing with the powers of the Family Proceedings Court, contempt of court and costs.
