Emma Gene Merrin moved away to fulfill her dream of being a big-time lawyer in New York City. Plans didn't plan out like she would like them to when she found out her grandmother was terminally ill with cancer. She decided to move home to help her grandfather take care of her grandmother. It felt only right since they took over caring for her when her parents died when she was a little girl. Her motivation for being a DUI lawyer came from her parents' death in a drunk driving car accident. She didn't just leave behind her family and friends; she left behind her true love. The one she could never get off her mind. He was the one she could never replace, even though she never tried to. With work and university, she didn't have the time.

Caleb Ryan Cooper was a small-town guy who never wanted to leave. He wanted to settle down after high school, buy a farm, and start a family. You know, the typical small-town stuff. Eventually, that is what he did. Not with the one he wanted, though. But that didn't last forever. Death kept hitting his family. His heart forever belonged to one beautiful lady. Even though he tried to move on with his life, started a family of his own, Emma Gene Holland was on his mind. Sadly, his wife passed away and left him to raise their daughter, Gabbie, on his own.
