Adolescence

An analytical examination of modern adolescence in America on both an individual and collective level. On the individual level, the book focuses on the adolescent's reaction to the urban-industrial conditions that have created an environment in which social roots are uncertain and personal identity is vulnerable. On the collective level, it depicts the adolescent's attempts to compensate for uncertainty and vulnerability by engaging in subcultural or even countercultural behaviour.
