Science that Helps

I primi vent'anni di vita dell'Istituto di Ricerca in Biomedicina (IRB) e dell'Istituto Oncologico di Ricerca (IOR) sono stati molto intensi e ricchi di successi.
Ripercorrendo la storia dei due istituti attraverso gli eventi più significativi, ascoltando le testimonianze e le riflessioni di esponenti del mondo politico e accademico e degli stessi ricercatori, si conferma l'importanza della scienza per la società. Il libro, riccamente illustrato, è anche un'occasione per "visitare" la nuova sede dei due istituti e per comprendere le prospettive delle ricerche d'avanguardia condotte a Bellinzona nel campo dell'immunologia e dell'oncologia, per la prevenzione e la cura di malattie infettive e tumori.
 
The first two decades of the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB) and the Institute of Oncology Research (IOR) have been very intense as well as successful. Reviewing the history of the two institutes based on the most important events, listening to the testimonies and reflections of people from the political and academic world, as well as of those of the researchers themselves, confirms the importance of science for society. This book with its wealth of illustrations is also an opportunity to "visit" the new headquarters of the two institutes and to better understand the prospects of the cutting-edge research conducted in Bellinzona in the field of immunology and oncology, aimed at preventing and treating infectious diseases and cancer.
