Peter Schram has spent over 50 years participating in electrical codes- and safety-making activities. He worked in the Engineering Department of the Underwriters Laboratories' for 30 years, with ten of them spent managing the group responsible for the evaluation of the electrical equipment for use in hazardous locations. During this time, he was the UL representative on a number of NFPA technical committees including the National Electric Code Technical Committee's Code-Making Panel 14 and the Technical Committee on Electrical Equipment in Chemical Atmospheres. Following his career at the UL, Schram was the NFPA's Chief Electrical Engineer, responsible for the preparation of the National Electric Code (R)and other electrical standards. He was Secretary to the National Electric Code Technical Correlating Committee, and editor of the National Electric Code (R) Handbook. Mark W. Earley, P.E. is assistant vice president of the Engineering Division at NFPA. He is secretary of the committee on the National Electrical Code (R), the U.S. co-secretary of the correlating committees on Electrical Installations, an associate member of the Canadian Electrical Code Part I, and a member of the Electrical Council of Underwriters Laboratories, the Electrical and Electronics Standards Board of the American National Standards Institute, the Executive Committee of the U.S. National Committee on the International Electrotechnical Commission, and the Safety Council of Inchcape ETL Laboratories. Mr. Earley is also a member of the International Association of Electrical Inspectors, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and the Society of Fire Protection Engineers. He was the editor of the 1990, 1993, and 1996 editions of the National Electrical Code Handbook. Prior to joining NFPA he was with the Factory Mutual Research Corporation for eight years.
