About the Author Christian Schlegel received his Ph.D. degree in 1988 from the University of Notre Dame, Indiana, and has held research positions at ABB Switzerland and the University of South Australia and faculty positions at the Universities of Texas and Utah. His research interests are in multiple-access communications, trellis coding, and mobile radio systems. Dr. Schlegel is currently at the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Utah. He also consults for diverse national and international industrial and academic partners. His work is widely published in the field, and Trellis Coding is Dr. Schlegel's first completed research monograph. Currently, he is working on a book with Dr. Alex Grant titled Coordinated Multiple User Communications in production at Kluwer Academic Publisher.
