Description
The author of "Boys Adrift" argues that the lives of young women today are at risk, and shows what we can do to encourage girls to achieve their potential. In "Girls on the Edge", psychologist and physician Leonard Sax argues that girls today have an incredibly brittle sense of self. His work with young people reveals that girls may look confident and strong on the outside, but they're incredibly fragile within. He shows how teens are confused about their sexual identity, and they are obsessed with grades, sports, networking sites, and appearances. Environmental toxins are accelerating physical maturity faster than their emotional maturity. Now, Sax gives us the tools we need to help girls become independent and confident women, and provides parents with practical tips on everything from helping their daughter make decisions, to nurturing her spirit through female-centered activities, and more. Sax shows that girls can reach their potential when involved in communities of female role models. These organizations, he argues, give young women pride in a strong sense of self and allow them to grow in a safe environment that nurtures curiosity and confidence.
Compelling and inspiring, "Girls on the Edge" points the way to a new future for today's girls and young women.
