Chickpea (Cicer arietinum) belongs to the family Leguminosae. It is widely cultivated in India, Australia, Pakistan, Turkey, Myanmar, and Ethiopia. It is an important cool season pulse crop and is also called Bengal gram. In terms of pulse production, India contributes about 25% to the total global pulses production. In India chickpea grows on about 106 lakh ha area producing 111.58 lakh tone with the average year of 1056 kg ha-1. In UP its total area is 6.11 lakh ha, production 6.84 lakh tonnes, and productivity 1120 kg/ha.
