Corrections with Compassion
Description
For the men and women who work inside the hardest setting in the criminal justice system.
Corrections with Compassion is the third volume in Stephanie Salinas's Stories of Faith at Work series - books for the working Christian, written from the conviction that the gospel meets believers in their professions.
This volume tells ten stories from inside prisons and jails - officers, chaplains, case managers, medical staff - who are trying to hold safety and humanity together in environments that resist both:
- The inmate whose case file did not tell the whole story
- The colleague who became hardened
- The visitor day that revealed something
- The release that did not go the way anyone hoped
- The compassion that has to be cultivated deliberately because the work does not produce it on its own
Each chapter follows a different practitioner through a specific situation, then offers Lessons Learned, a Biblical Reflection, and a Practical Application.
The stories are fictional composites drawn from realities rarely written about with care.
For the corrections professional who has not lost the ability to see the people inside the system as people, and who wants to walk the work in dependence on the One whose ministry began among prisoners and the lost.
