Description
Leg ulcers constitute a long-term problem in many immobile patients and one which takes up a great deal of the time of those involved in their treatments. The pathogenesis of ulceration is complex and the art of healing consists applying the appropriate therapy at each stage of the healing process. This first-aid manual, based on the author's experience over twenty years of treating leg ulcers, describes the principles of management at every stage, giving checklists of differential diagnosis and numerous diagrams and photographs showing how to apply dressings and bandages. The methods described are applicable throughout the world, in hospitals, clinics, and the home. For this new edition, the author has updated the text in the light of information that has come out of the national and international meetings organized by the Venous Forum of the Royal Society of Medicine, from the pharmaceutical industry, from discussions with doctors and nurses, and from his own recent work on the treatment of leg ulcers. There are three new illustrations including a useful flow chart and summary.
