Lone Mouritsen was born in Brazil to itinerant Danish parents, and has since travelled the globe incessantly, though always returning between times to the family home in Copenhagen, and for a longer time to complete a degree at the University of Copenhagen. She began writing for Rough Guides in 1988 and has contributed to guides to West Africa and Europe.
