Description
The FABA has been developed by updating previous concepts on coronary-prone behaviour, e.g. Type A behaviour pattern, as well as incorporating recent theories, e.g. Action Regulation Theory. It covers decades of research on coping with work demands. Impaired action regulation adversely affects efficiency and health at work. Interpreting Type A behaviour pattern as ineffective and unhealthy ("faulty") action style revealed that certain behavioural and personality characteristics cause this pattern. Among those are excessive rigid planning; obsession with one's work; reacting with lack of self-control; and high inter-personal dominance. 4,500 data sets from Scotland, Germany, and other countries were used to develop and validate the FABA questionnaire. A stable four-factor structure emerged. The manual includes age- and gender-specific standard norms. Application is recommended in the areas of work-stress assessment, occupational health management, prevention of inefficient and unhealthy ("faulty") work behaviours, rehabilitation after cardiovascular disease and coaching.
