Description
The production of synthetic drug compounds is an important area of modern pharmaceutical technology. Advances such as the increased use of peptide-based pharmaceuticals, significant in new concepts of therapy in recent years, are incorporated into this review of synthetic and semi-synthetic pharmaceuticals. Dealing with both chemical production processes as well as commercial aspects, eg packaging and marketing, it is the first of a two-volume work designed to cover the field of of modern pharmaceutical chemistry. The second volume has been planned to cover the biogenic drug field. The material, which assumes a knowledge of organic chemistry, is considered under nine chapter headings, and there is a further chapter to incorporate those drugs which do not fit into earlier groups. The choice of drugs has been made on two accounts - frequency of prescription, and importance of position on the market.
