Description
While Mother Bear hangs out the washing and Father Bear rakes the leaves, Oliver chases a big yellow leaf...all the way to the edge of the woods. Oliver stops. He looks around. Nothing is familiar. "Mother Bear? Father Bear?" he calls. No answer. Oliver is lost! Can he find enough courage not to panic and find his way home? This charming, cautionary tale is brought alive by stunning, autumnal illustrations, depicting the depths of the unfamiliar woods in contrast to the safe consiness of home.

Phyllis Root has written numerous children's books, including What Baby Wants; One Duck Stuck; Aunt Nancy and Old Man Trouble; Aunt Nancy and Cousin Lazybones; All for the Newborn Baby; Kiss the Cow; Rattletrap Car; and, most recently, Big Mama Makes the World, illustrated by Helen Oxenbury. Phyllis lives in Minnesota, USA with her family. Christopher Denise was drawn to the story of Oliver because, he says, "I couldn't pass up the opportunity to draw scenes of the fall - bright blue skies, brilliant displays of red, yellow and purple, cool, crisp air and, best of all, playing in the leaves." Christopher has illustrated several picture books for children, although this is his first title for Walker Books. He lives in Rhode Island with his family.
