Description
Learn and perfect your positioning skills with the leading radiography text and clinical reference! Merrill's Atlas of Radiographic Positioning and Procedures, Sixteenth Edition, describes how to position patients properly, set exposures, and produce the quality radiographs needed to make accurate diagnoses. Guidelines to both common and uncommon projections prepare you for every kind of patient encounter. The gold standard in imaging, Merrill's Atlas covers all procedures in the ASRT radiography curriculum and prepares you for the ARRT exam.
NEW and UPDATED! Additional figures and content in special imaging modality chapters represent current practice, protocols, safety measures, and technology in pediatric imaging, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, diagnostic medical sonography, mammography, molecular imaging, nuclear medicine, and radiation oncology
UPDATED! Unit values expressed as SI units, with traditional units provided in parentheses, match the format used in imaging technical texts and the ARRT exam.
UPDATED! Gonadal shielding guidelines align with current clinical practice
UPDATED! Collimation field sizes and image receptor sizes are simplified for enhanced clinical relevance
STREAMLINED! Rounded decimal values replace fractions throughout the text
Comprehensive, full-color coverage of anatomy and positioning makes Merrill's Atlas the most in-depth text and reference available for radiography students and practitioners
Guidelines to each projection include a photograph of a properly positioned patient and information on patient position, part position, respiration, central ray angulation, collimation, kVp values, structures shown, and evaluation criteria
Diagnostic-quality radiograph for each projection demonstrates the result the radiographer is trying to achieve

Jeannean has been teaching in Medical Imaging at Arkansas State University since 1991. In that time, she has served as interim program director, Faculty Senate senator, Faculty Association Secretary, Vice-President of the Arkansas Society of Radiologic Technologists, and numerous committees for the college and university. Additionally, she has been a recipient of the Arkansas State University Board of Trustees Faculty Award for Teaching Excellence and the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) Distinguished Author Award. She has numerus national peer-reviewed journal publications and continuously provides presentations at various local, state, and national forums. Jeannean is co-author of Merrill's Atlas of Radiographic Positioning and Procedures, an internationally renowned textbook in medical imaging procedures. Her other scholarly activities focus on providing electronic instructional tools for medical imaging educators Dr. Curtis has published several articles in journals, contributed to books, edited and reviewed educational books and products, and developed new products. She is the current author of international radiologic sciences education textbooks. Dr. Curtis has served in offices from secretary to president in her state affiliate and is still active in serving members and students. She holds several memberships with professional organizations and volunteers at national conferences for student competitions and hosting CE lectures for technologists and educators.
Before entering academia, she worked as a radiologic technologist for various healthcare organizations. She continues to visit local clinical sites with current undergraduate students to stay current in the practice field.
Dr. Curtis research interest is emergency preparedness and disaster response and serves on several college committees. She is the current university liaison for La Region 7 Hospital Preparedness Healthcare Coalition.
