Description
A documentation of patchwork quilts from both private and public Australian collections. The book covers the history of all types of patchwork design from all over Australia. Patchwork quilts provide an insight into Australia's history, for they were made before the Europeans arrived by the Aborigines. Later the early settlers followed their example. Convict women were provided with "two pounds of patchwork-pieces" to give them something to do on the long journey to the colonies. In this book patchwork and quilts of all descriptions are included: chintz, applique and embroidered, quilts made from militay uniforms, signature quilts, quilts made in Changi prison, wagga rugs and many more. The author has also written "Australian Patchwork" and "Quilt a Koala".
