Description
Open learning is playing an increasingly prominent role in the education and training of health-care practitioners - nurses, doctors and therapists - and some health-care teachers are developing expertise in the management of open learning systems. This book is intended to show how all teachers can, through reviewing and refocusing their existing skills, become experts in open learning. Chapters offer practical guidance on: writing an open learning curriculum; choosing and adapting open learning materials; teaching students how to manage their learning; the tutorial role in an open learning system; and integrating open learning with existing modes of teaching. Many of the discussions are based on actual examples. The book offers advice and practical help to those who wish to introduce open learning and those already using it. It should be of interest to those interested in the theory of open learning, as well as the practice.
Reviews / Votes
"This is one of the most interesting texts I have read formany years.. It is authoritative and clearly written. It provides a rich set of examples of teaching, and a reflective discourse."- Professor George Brown "...succeeds in inspiring the reader bymaking the process of reflective learning interesting and thought provoking...has a narrative drive which makes it a book too good to put down." - Dr Mary Thorpe "What comes through very strongly and is an admirable feature is so much of the author's own personal experience, what it felt like to take risks and how his own practice developed as a result of taking risks, exploring uncharted territory...The book has the potential to become the reflective practitioner's 'bible'." - Dr Lorraine StefaniMore details
