Description
Structures and Architecture - REstructure REmaterialize REthink REuse contains the contributions to the 6th International Conference on Structures and Architecture (ICSA 2025, Antwerp, Belgium, 8-11 July 2025). As a response to the pressing global climate and energy crisis, and with new settings and tools, the design and construction of our built environment needs reconsideration and extension. The papers call for a re-imagination of current practices regarding structures and architecture.
The volumes of the series are published every three years, in tandem with the conferences organised by the International Association of Structures and Architecture. They aim to reach a global audience of researchers, practitioners, and students, including architects, structural and construction engineers, builders and building consultants, constructors, material suppliers, planners, urban designers, anthropologists, economists, sociologists, artists, product manufacturers, and other professionals involved in the design and realisation of architectural, structural, and infrastructural projects.

Mario Rinke is a Professor at the Faculty of Design Sciences at the University of Antwerp. Trained as a structural engineer and working in the field of architecture for some years, he researches and teaches structures and construction in architecture. Mario holds a Diploma degree in civil engineering from the Bauhaus University Weimar and a PhD from ETH Zurich and worked as a design engineer for major offices in London and Zurich. He taught at the architecture department at ETH Zurich, the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and the Tor Vergata University Rome. He is a cofounder of the International Association of Structures and Architecture (IASA).
Marie Frier Hvejsel is a Professor of Architectural Technology at Aarhus School of Architecture in Denmark, where she coordinates the research lab 'Technology, Building Culture and Habitation'. She is cofounder and president of the International Association for Structures and Architecture and co-chair of the 5th and 6th International Conferences on Structures and Architecture. She holds a Master of Science in Architecture and a PhD in architecture from The Department of Architecture, Design & Media Technology at Aalborg University. Her work focuses at the formulation of transdisciplinary research methods, formats and didactics for juxtaposing the development and expansion of the social capacity of architecture as spatial 'gesture' with the development of viable technical 'principles' of construction.
