Description
A wide variety of quantitatively different forms of reading disorder have been identified and extensively described. These may be broadly classified into the peripheral and central dyslexias, according to whether the patients have impaired prelexical or impaired lexical/post?lexical processes. The Special Issue concerns peripheral reading disorders. These may be produced by various functional deficits, which may manifest themselves in clinical syndromes of neglect dyslexia and letter-by-letter reading. Detailed study of these syndromes should allow better understanding of how visual lexical access may normally be obtained.
