Description
First publishd in 1969, "Neonatal Surgery" has become established as the standard reference work on the subject. Drawing on the extensive experience of the specialist neonatal unit at Alder Hey Childrens Hospital Liverpool, this latest volume has been expanded to take into account the numerous changes that have taken place since the publication of the scond edition ten years ago. In keeping with previous editions the editors have concentrated on providing practical guidance to those operations that the paediatric surgeon is most likely to encounter. However, the care of neonates requires a multi-disciplinary team approach and this is reflected in the new edition by the inclusion of chapters from physicians, anaesthetists, biochemists, and nursing staff. The third edition is complemented by new line drawings, black and white photographs, X-rays and an exhaustive reference section. Great care has been taken to ensure easy access to the information. The text is divided into eight main sections dealing with general care, trauma, head and neck, diaphragm, heart and great vessels, abdominal wall, central nervous system and urogenital system.
There are new chapters on nutrition, antenatal diagnosis, X-rays and imaging and antibiotics and infections. This comprehensive work will be welcomed by paediatric and general surgeons and all those involved in the surgical care of the newborn.
