Description
Whilst both animals and human beings engage in mating, only humans observe the ritual of marriage. Is marriage an outgrowth at the cultural level of the kinds of mating arrangements observed in animals, or is it inherently different? This question is explored here from the differing perspectives of zoology, biological anthropology, social anthropology, and sociology. The aim is to bring together these different approaches, indicating the problems and exploring the
possibilities for a synthesis.
possibilities for a synthesis.
Reviews / Votes
'The entire enterprise is sober and scholarly, yet eminently readable. The book has been very well edited. Therapists in the field of marriage and relationships will find this book useful background reading ... it will be a worthwhile acquisition for libraries of therapy and training centres in this area.'Olwen McGregor, Sexual and Marital Therapy, Volume 6, Number 3 1991
