Description
The books in this series aim to bring to a wide public the chief glories of the rich and varied collections of fine and decorative art in the Ashmolean Museum. Each volume takes a topic or field in which the Museum's holdings are internationally renowned and provides an introduction for the general reader and a compact guide for the expert. This work focuses on the collection known of "First (Dr Wall) Period" coloured Worcester porcelain, 1751-83. Containing over 1000 pieces, it was given to the Ashmolean Museum in 1957 by Mr and Mrs H.R. Marshall. Noted artists, all illustrations in this booklet, were J.H. O'Neale (working in Worcester from 1768-1770), John Donaldson and James Giles, the latter working in imitation of Meissen and Sevres styles.
