Latest Developments in Reality-Based 3D Surveying and Modelling

Fabio Remondino received his PhD in Photogrammetry in 2006 from ETH Zurich, Switzerland and he now leads the 3D Optical Metrology unit (http://3dom.fbk.eu) of the Bruno Kessler Foundation (http://www.fbk.eu), a public research center in Trento, Italy. His research interests include geospatial data collection and processing, heritage documentation, 3D modelling, sensor and data integration. He is author of over 200 scientific publications in journals and at international conferences, 7 books, 8 book chapters, 8 special issues in journals and 15 conference proceedings. He has received 10 best paper awards at conferences and organized more than 25 scientific events, 20 summer schools and 10 tutorials. He is serving as President of ISPRS Technical Commission II, Vice-President of CIPA Heritage Documentation and Vice-President of EuroSDR.

Andreas Georgopoulos is Professor of Photogrammetry and Director of the Lab of Photogrammetry of the School of Rural & Surveying Engineering of NTUA. He holds a Diploma of Surveying (NTUA 1976) and an MSc (1977) and a PhD (1981) in Photogrammetry from University College London. He has been teaching Photogrammetry and Documentation of Monuments since 1980 in UCL, NTUA and as visiting professor in KU Leuven (RLICC), CUT (Dept. of Civil Eng.) and University of Aegean. He has been Vice-Head (1998-2002) and Head (2002-2006) of the School of Rural & Surveying Eng. and member of the Research Committee of NTUA since 1999. Since 2006, he is a member of the Executive Board of CIPA Heritage Documentation and has served as Secretary general (2010-2014), while currently he is President. He has published more than 250 scientific papers in international journals and conference proceedings. His research interests focus on 3D modelling of cultural heritage, photogrammetric automation and digital contemporary techniques.

Diego González-Aguilera received his B.Sc. degree in Surveying Engineering and M.Sc. degree in Geodesy and Cartography Engineering from Salamanca University, Spain, in 1999 and 2001, respectively. He was a Research Assistant at INRIA, Grenoble, France, in the Institute of Computer Vision and Robotics, where he also conducted his Ph.D. research on 3D reconstruction from a single view, graduating in 2005. He has authored over 150 research articles in international journals and conference proceedings. He is co-inventor of 11 patents and 21 intellectual properties (software). Based on his PhD results, he has received seven international awards from the International Societies of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS/ASPRS) and 11 national awards, one of them awarded by the Royal Academy of Engineering. In 2005, he founded the research group TIDOP (http://tidop.usal.es) (Geotechnologies for the 3D digitalization and modelling of viii complex objects) at the University of Salamanca. He is Full Professor and Head of the Cartographic and Land Engineering Department at the University of Salamanca, co-founder and CEO of the start-up ITOS3D (Image TO Smart 3D).

Panagiotis Agrafiotis is a PhD student in the Lab of Photogrammetry of National Technical University of Athens (https://www.ntua.gr) and a researcher in the area of underwater 3D modelling and mapping in the Photogrammetric Vision Lab of Cyprus University of Technology (https://www.cut.ac.cy). He holds a Diploma in Rural and Surveying Engineering and a M.Sc. in Geoinformatics. In recent years, he has worked on various EU research projects with the responsibility of applied Computer Vision algorithms design and 3D modelling and mapping. He was a member of the Local Organizing Committee of 3D ARCH 2017 international workshop while he is serving as secretary of the ISPRS WG II/9: Underwater Data Acquisition and Processing (http://www2.isprs.org/commissions/comm2/wg9.html).
