Exorcism in Daoism

"Exorcism in Daoism" edited by Florian C. Reiter presents the contributions to an international symposium held in Berlin on 8th-10th of December 2009. Exorcism always was and still is an omnipresent phenomenon in China which shaped the liturgical and scriptural Daoism in history. Daoist exorcist rituals in their own right - in a way bordering on mediumistic and shaman practices - constitute the basis for Daoist professional life and activities in society.
The contributions reflect the wide field of exorcism in Daoism. They display its scriptural documentation and discuss specific practical aspects. Some contributions are based on field work in China and Taiwan, connecting Daoist history with the present time.
