Gender in Cultural Performances

In the summer semester of 2002, the international and interdisciplinary guest professorship for "Gender-Studies" of the Rhineland-Palatinate, supported by the Ministry of Science, Research and Culture of the Rhineland-Palatinate, was awarded to Janelle Reinelt, professor for Theater Studies at the University of California, Irvine. For more than 20 years, Janelle Reinelt's work has focused on gender studies in the field of theatre and performance. Her interdisciplinary scholarship addresses questions of the performative construction of gender as well as ethnic and national identities.
This second volume of research in the area of gender studies offers the lectures given by Professor Reinelt during her guest professorship, as well as contributions by some of her students and by faculty members of the Theater Department at Mainz University.
