Industrial Engineering and Management

Beginning with an introduction to industrial engineering, this textbook discusses the contributions and thoughts of classical (Taylor, Fayol, and Weber's), neo-classical (Hawthorne) and modern thinkers. The book explains different functions of management, and differentiates between management and administration.

Topics related to facilities location, material handling, work study, job evaluation and merit rating, wages and incentives are discussed. The book is designed to provide a better understanding of industrial operations. Financial management, management accounting, break even analysis, depreciation and replacement policies for equipment are covered. Numerical examples are provided as appropriate.

Chapters on industrial relations, industrial safety and industrial legislation are included. A chapter on decision-making is added to examine this vital skill. Quantitative techniques for decision-making, such as linear programming, transportation problems, assignment problems, game theory, and queuing theory are also discussed in this textbook.
