Description
Extensive monograph on one of the most influential American artists of the 20th century: Robert Rauschenberg, a pioneer of Pop Art and Conceptual Art.
Rauschenberg became internationally renowned for his "Combines", in which he fused everyday materials with abstract painting to bridge the gap between art and life. The monograph documents his oeuvre through all phases of his artistic development, beginning with the interplay between photographic imagery and gestural painting since the 1950s and following Rauschenberg's career through the emergence of his "Silkscreen Paintings" in the early 1960s to later series, in which he increasingly focused on the materiality of the image support before, in the 1990s, he turned to digital image processes. The monograph also documents Rauschenberg's performative, theatrical, and interdisciplinary projects, in which he collaborated with figures such as John Cage, Niki de Saint Phalle, Jasper Johns, and Jean Tinguely.
Text: John Sailer.
