Reviewing the breadth and depth of assessments for early literacy, this book is an important contribution. It is clear, readable, and thorough, and will be an extremely valuable resource for teachers, reading specialists, school psychologists, and others involved in assessing children's early reading and writing. The emphasis on scientifically based research will make the volume particularly useful for school professionals meeting the challenges of No Child Left Behind. As a researcher, I gained much useful information as well as tools to apply in my work.
