Description
In this book, special emphasis is laid on the behavior of laterally loaded pile on sloping ground. It provides an overview of laterally loaded piles and its failure pattern. The analytical, numerical and experimental work carried out on laterally loaded piles previously in the literature has been covered. This book is devoted to students, researcher and the designer who want to work in the area of laterally loaded piles. The pile capacity of laterally loaded piles, deflections and maximum bending moments profile of long flexible piles has been discussed in detail. An expression was also developed by multiple regression analysis and proposed a correction factor to incorporate the slope and embedded length effect on pile capacity of laterally loaded pile. From the bending moments and deflections' profile, the well-known p-y curves (soil resistance (p) and lateral deflection (y) along the pile shaft) for a pile embedded on different slopes were developed, a case for which no such curves exist so far.
