Description
The French architect Claude Vasconi gained widespread attention with his elegantly-produced industrial buildings. His assembly halls for Renault in Billancourt became so well known in France that they were used for an edition of postage stamps. Equally sophisticated curved forms distinguish his opera house and congress centre in Mulhouse and the administrative building for the Departement du Bas-Rhin in Strasbourg. Vasconi has also created office buildings such as the Lille-Europe tower in Euralille, the Spandau Gate centre in Berlin and the Kreativitatsmelle in Dusseldorf. In 1973 he gained international acclaim as a result of the highly-controversial project of Les Halles in Paris. Further projects include the reorganization of the Borsig-area in Berlin and the design for the new Chamber of Commerce in Luxembourg. Smaller projects such as a radar station in the Vosges mountains and a mobile theatre in Weimar have also come under the aegis of this versatile architect This volume presents approximately 20 selected buildings and projects from the 1970s to the 1990s.
