Description
This book has a multi-dimensional approach concerning the land use and water management system in South Indian History from the early to medieval period. Focus has been given to finding out the relationship between landscape and human settlements in the Kaveri and Krishna Delta regions. Different aspects, such as the formation of different categories of agrarian settlements, the policies adopted by the ruling dynasties towards agricultural expansion, the nature of the agricultural methods, seasonal variations of the crops, and the effect of the monsoon on agricultural production have thoroughly been nurtured. Attention has also been paid to studying land tenure and control systems. Due attention has been paid to examining the different irrigation methods for agricultural purposes and the role played by the state and other participants in the water management system.

Suman Saha is presently a faculty member in the Department of History, Biswa Bangla Biswabidyalaya, Bolpur, West Bengal. He has obtained his M.A. degree and Ph.D. with a specialization in South Indian History from the Department of Ancient Indian History Culture and Archaeology, Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan, West Bengal. He has published several articles in edited books and reputed Journals. He also worked as a research assistant for the Indian Council of Historical Research funded project in 2016-2018.
K. Mavali Rajan is presently an Associate Professor in the Department of History at Central University of Tamil Nadu, Thiruvarur, Tamil Nadu. He is the author/editor of six books. As a content writer, Dr. Rajan contributed e-content for 12 modules for the subject Indian Culture, epg-pathshala, a UGC/MHRD project under the National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NME-ICT), 2014-2016. He has published several research papers in different academic journals and conference proceedings, as well as in edited volumes.
