Description
Will uncovering the truth about a cold murder case in Galveston bring closure to the victim's family? Louise Finnerty and Marnie Liccione must weigh the cost of seeking the truth against the threat to their families from malevolent forces.
In the winter of 2020, a young man demands that the Bay City Daily News investigate his father's violent death. Almost 20 years ago, the Galveston police attributed the death of his father, a beloved high school teacher, to a shark attack. After reviewing the evidence, Chris Hill, editor of the paper, agrees that the cold case deserves a new investigation.
Dr. Louise Finnerty is drawn into the case by the unexpected death of her patient, a detective with ties to Galveston's criminal underground. She enlists the help of her close friend, Dr. Marnie Liccione, to find the truth.
The twists and turns of the investigation threaten the lives of both doctors and their families as it leads the reader deeper into the underbelly of Galveston, a Gulf Coast destination with a troubled past and rumored secrets.
Breaking News is the third book in the prize-winning Finnerty-Liccione series. Rae and Venters were finalists for the Colorado Book Award for Break Bone Fever in 2022 and winners of the Killer Nashville Silver Falchion Award for best thriller for Breaking Apart in 2024medic al

Mary Rae, M.D. grew up in the New York city suburbs. She graduated from Colgate University before attending the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. After residency, she moved to Texas where she practiced Emergency Medicine for twenty years. She then changed course to practice Primary Care until her retirement in 2020. Soon after her retirement from medicine, she and her husband moved to Oakland, California. During her time in Texas, she and her husband raised two children. While living in Houston, she enjoyed exploring the Gulf Coast. Her fascination with the area led to the idea of writing a murder mystery set in Galveston in collaboration with her friend, Wanda Venters. Retirement has allowed Mary to spend time with her two grandchildren, to continue her lifelong quest for proficiency in Spanish and French, and, of course, to write.Website: www.maryraebooks.com
