In the course of my twenty-year career in academe I have rarely come across a collection of essays so various in approach and configuration, and yet so unified in spirit, so equal in their devotion to the subject of Theater. Whether they deal with theater as literature, they are interested in theater as performance, or they approach it from the pedagogical standpoint, and whether they discuss dramatic theory or address instead the practices of drama, all the contributors to this volume believe, quite firmly and passionately, in the teaching value, indeed in the life-changing power of Theater.
