Inviting School Success

INVITING SCHOOL SUCCESS is built around a specific model of teaching and counseling known as "invitational education," which is intellectually grounded in the work of John Dewey, Carl Rogers, and Albert Bandura, among others. Using this model, Purkey and Novak advocate that the process of education is as important as the product, that cooperation and collaboration are absolutely essential to teaching, and that students have untapped possibilities. Since the publication of the first edition of this groundbreaking text over twenty-five years ago, invitational education has formalized into a movement that has developed its own organization: the International Alliance for Invitational Education, which now includes over one thousand members.
