Chess improves CRITICAL THINKING, MEMORY and CONCENTRATION - the perfect non-screen-based game!
Your child will love this in-depth guide on how to play the world's most popular board game. This isn't just a textbook about the rules of the game though - master chess tutor Jessica E Prescott has devised 35 innovative activities to teach the skills all while having fun playing.
Why not try Pawn Football, where pawns line up at their starting rank and race to the other side? There's also the Scholar's Mate - a four-move checkmate every beginner needs to know - and when you're really good, you can play Bughouse, a crazy four-person game with two chess sets.
With a mix of solo and multi-player games, all the activities have clear, colourful artworks. There are helpful hints and tips throughout, as well as a Starting Out section if you ever need reminding of a rule or have forgotten how a piece can move.
