Description
An entertaining new collection, Gravity Changes is driven by imagination, and its speculative elements go beyond magical realism. The stories are about people having ordinary, human problems, but these problems become part of the physical structure of the universe, twisting the very fabric of reality.
Zach Powers's writing is reminiscent of such notable authors as: Aimee Bender, Karen Russell, Haruki Murakami, Italo Calvino, George Saunders, Kelly Link, Steven Millhauser, Amelia Gray, Manuel Gonzales, Julia Elliott, Kelly Luce, Jorge Luis Borges, and Marie-Helene Bertino.
BOA Short Fiction Prize winners have led sales in recent seasons, and have seen outstanding attention from the NYTBR, Kirkus, Publishers Weekly, Library Journal, Booklist, etc.
Before Powers became a writer, he was well known as a professional musician and a television producer. In addition to his literary awards and accolades (2015 BOA Short Fiction Prize; 2014 Prairie Schooner Book Prize (Finalist); 2013 Noemi Press Book Award (Finalist), etc.), he has won numerous Emmy awards for television writing, directing, editing, musical composition, etc.
Powers is already very connected to the writing community, as he regularly attends writers conferences and workshops (such as the Tin House Writers Workshop). His stories have also been widely published in journals and magazines.
