The Author: Richard C. Poulsen received his Ph.D. in American Studies from the University of Utah in 1976. He has published four other books: The Pure Experience of Order; Misbegotten Muses; The Mountain Man Vernacular; and The Landscape of the Mind. He has been awarded two Fulbright Lectureships - one to Denmark and one to Finland. Dr. Poulsen was Professor of English at Brigham Young University for many years and is currently Professor of English and American Literature at National Chung Cheng University, Taiwan.
