Valerie Porter is an experienced author and editor, and her previous books have covered a broad range of countryside topics - several have been on the subject of rare livestock breeds. She spent her childhood in the wilds of deepest rural Wiltshire and most of her adult life up rough farm tracks in West Sussex, where she still lives.
