Description
Heart failure is an important disorder with high prevalence and poor prognosis. Heart failure management is less "dramatic" than some interventions for acute ischaemic syndromes, and much treatment suboptimal; these, combined with the poor prognosis, make many doctors uncomfortable in managing patients with heart failure. Designed to improve heart failure management, this book describes current investigation and diagnostic methods and explains the pathophysiological basis of current heart failure treatment, especially in the context of primary care, where the vast majority of heart failure cases are treated. The book includes photographs of physical signs; gross and microscopic anatomical sections; a wide range of imaging techniques; and bar charts and graphs to describe the epidemiology and results of key clinical trials. The book should be of interest to professionals responsible for the first-line management of patients with heart failure.
