Description
This guide aims to enable the easy identification of 1080 plants likely to be encountered in Britain and Europe. Each plant is shown in detail, accompanied by colour photographs which facilitate direct identification. Symbols are used to indicate shape, habitat and distribution. The arrangement of the text is by plant types and flower colours. The English common names of plants are used throughout and in addition, scientific Latin names are provided against the colour plates. The use of botanical terms has been kept to a minimum, but where their use is unavoidable, their definition can be found in the illustrated glossary. Oleg Polunin has also written "Flowers of Europe - A Field Guide", "Flowers of Greece and the Balkans", "Flowers of the Himalaya", "A Guide to the Vegetation of Britain and Europe" and "Flowers of South West Europe". He received the Royal Horticultural Society Veitch Memorial Medal in 1962 and was awarded the Linnean Society H H Bloomer award in 1983.
