Description
This is a book about personal choices--responsible choices that will help students get what they want from school and life. Throughout the text, students are asked, "What are you doing to get what you want?"
Each chapter and every activity demonstrates how responsible decision-making and follow-through put potential and ambition into action. Potential is the ability; ambition is the desire; and initiative is the doing. It demonstrates how organized action enhances academic success and helps create a healthy and balanced life. As one reviewer stated, "The text tells the reader WHAT they need to know and HOW they need to do it." Core changes to this edition include a pre- and post assessment, new financial management chapter, revised and enhance information literacy coverage, and test taking is expanded to two chapters (prep and performance).

Reviews / Votes
"The applications within the chapters help students to immediately apply the skills. The post-assessment downplays the `chapter quiz' concept and helps students individualize and internalize what they have just learned. The best thing about the activities is that they are engaging; they require the students to apply the skills that they are learning to their own life and academic situation."~ Elvira Johnson,CentralPiedmont Community College
"Steve speaks directly to the students and one gets the feeling that he really cares about their success. He is encouraging but also manages to convey how important it is for the student to take responsibility for their actions and to make wise choices. He challenges them to ask and answer important questions and gets them involved in the process by providing many opportunities to reflect on their behaviors."
~ Constance Egelman, NassauCommunity College
