Peter Doherty is a veterinary surgeon and medical researcher. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine--jointly with Rolf M. Zinkernagel--and is a recipient of the Albert Lasker Award for Basic Medical Research. He was named the 1997 Australian of the Year.
