Description
Translational Aspects of Extracellular Matrix offers a foundation for understanding ECM in relation to other fields. Beginning with ECM formation and function, then focusing on therapeutics approaches and targeting ECM in the clinic, this publication is a reference for researchers of all levels with diverse backgrounds. With chapters edited and written by experts in ECM research, this publication integrates broad concepts to translational research and offers readers guidance as a starting point for further literature study.

Professor Pihlajaniemi is obtained the Anders Jahre's Nordic Medical Prize for Young Scientists in 1994 and the Science Prize of the State of Finland (shared) in 1999. She is professor and chairman of Medical Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Oulu University and her current research interests include the cell-extracellular matrix interplay in physiological and pathological situations involving transmembrane collagens and the endostatin collagen. Professor Myllyharju is the director of Biocenter Oulu since 2010, having previously served as the Vice-Director of the Institue of Biomedicine at the University of Oulu. She has gained a formiddable reputation in the research fields of extracellular matrix proteins, collagens and hypoxia.
